Back in the early days, the company was called "Fritz Theissen & Söhne", and later "Theissen Fassaden- und Maschinenbau GmbH". One of Theissen’s departments was specialized in targetry. Due to Theissen's good quality and long presence in targetry business, some users call a pop-up target mechanism a Theissen (pronounced Tyson), and are in fact referring to the founder's name.

In 1993 Peter-Paul Theissen and Gerhard Lechner decided to focus exclusively on targetry products, and  Theissen Training System GmbH (TTS) was established. Since then, this corporation serves private and governmental customers with cutting edge and supremely engineered live-fire training equipment and range control systems.
